vasovagal syncope
April 4, 2008well, this is about the condition I have, because as happened today in the chatroom I had to move away in order to deal with a blackout, so I thought I would do a post so people would know what it is.
Vasovagal Syncope is more commonly known as the fainting disease (even though you can't catch it). People who have vasovagal have a naturally slow beating heart, sometimes slower than that of an athlete at their peak. Normally that would be good right?
Only problem is we also have a faulty brain reflex. When most people are standing or sitting for too long, they have a reflex in the brain that tells the blood vessels in your legs to constrict and force the blood up to the brain, resulting in some dizzyness. In vasovagal this doesn't happen, instead our blood vessels expand causing a temporary loss of blood to the head.
Generally the person suffering from vasovagal will fall to the floor as the body attempts to right itself.
Over 20% of people who are diagnosed with epilepsy actually have vasovagal syncope, and vasovagal is also the biggest cause of Sudden Adult Death syndrome.
